Glutathione

An antioxidant used topically for brightening dark spots and evening out overall tone.

  • All skin types

What it does

Glutathione is commonly paired with vitamin C, niacinamide, and tranexamic acid in brightening serums aimed at dark spots, acne marks, and uneven tone.

How it works

As an antioxidant, glutathione is thought to help interrupt the pigment-production pathway that leads to dark spots, which is why it's typically layered alongside other brightening actives rather than used alone.

Take care

Brightening formulas that combine glutathione with vitamin C or acerola water can be mildly irritating for very sensitive skin — patch test, and use daily sunscreen alongside any brightening routine.
