What it does

Salicylic acid exfoliates inside the pore itself, making it particularly effective on blackheads, whiteheads, and rough, congested texture, alongside active acne.

How it works

Because it's oil-soluble (unlike water-soluble AHAs), salicylic acid can penetrate the oily lining of a pore and loosen the bond between dead skin cells clogging it.

Take care

Introduce gradually (every other night at first), use daily sunscreen, and avoid layering with other strong exfoliants or retinoids while starting out. Not intended for anyone under 18 without a doctor's guidance; leave-on strengths are commonly flagged for caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding — ask your doctor first. Discontinue on persistent irritation.
